Our first family photos as a family of 4 were at our Atascadero house. I wanted to share some tips for doing photos at home and having a successful photoshoot!
My suggestions:
Pick rooms in your house with good light
Tidy up those rooms, have cute decor, and make those rooms a perfect backdrop
Clean!! Move cords from under the couch, sweep your front porch, clean windows, etc.
Send photos of the rooms in your house to your photographer a few weeks in advance so they can tell you what time of day will be best to shoot inside your house
Don’t get too dressy for photos at home. A dress is fine, but don’t wear something that doesn’t feel like you or is too fancy as in home photos should be more casual feeling
Get your makeup done so you feel your best, esp. if it’s shortly after having a baby. I was still 15 or so pounds heavier then my pre-baby weight, so I knew having professional makeup would make be feel better about myself
Get a tan! I spray tanned the day before photos because I just felt too pale. I always look better (and feel better) with a tan, and I’d say most people do too!
Hire a good photographer!!
I dressed Fischer in neutrals while we wore brighter colors, and I regret that. I should have put him in darker or more colorful clothing because babies are so pale, so it just washes them out. So pick something with more color for your baby!
Since you are in the comfort of your own home, take a break if baby is unhappy, give him a nap, feed him, lay him down. “Newborn” type sessions do take longer then most because babies are unpredictable at that age and don’t have a schedule.
