This was hands down my favorite vacation. I can't really pinpoint what one thing made it so great, because everyday there was so fun. The island of Kauai is quite different then Maui where I'd been twice before. It's more lush then Maui, had so many different types of landscapes for being a tiny island, had the most delicious, authentic tasting food, and some of the nicest people. We spent 9 days in our VRBO that sat just a few steps from the sand, which was basically our own private beach. Besides our little dog friend, who we named Paco, we only saw 5 other people walk past us. We adventured to the Na Pali Coast (I don't suggest doing it if there is any sign of rain) where we hiked about 8 miles roundtrip, where a waterfall awaited us at the end. We took our Jeeps off roading (after taking off all the doors), and by the end it looked like we all had really good tans because we were covered in so much tan dirt! We did a Kauai Coffee Plantation tour, tubed down old sugar cane canals, drank coconut milk from coconuts on our property, ate an insane amount of poke, ziplined through lush greenery, and did cartwheels around our property (well Jess and I did at least haha) and spent almost every night in the hot tub until about midnight or later. We also ventured up to Waimea Canyon, known as the Grand Canyon of Kauai, and then drove back down to the white sand beach nearby called Polihale State Park. Our friend may or may not have gotten his Jeep stuck in the sand and almost washed out to sea ;) Towards the end of our trip we discovered a little juice/acai hut called Kalalea Juice Hale, right down the street from our house. So naturally we ate breakfast there the last few days. The owner is the sweetest, and totally remembered us after just one visit. We took this trip with 3 other couple friends of ours, which made me realize how awesome it is to be an adult!! I was also lucky enough to photograph 2 of my friends engagement sessions (Nick & Jess, Alana & Andy) as well as a wedding while we were there. 9 days goes pretty quick when you're filling almost every second of your day with something fun! It was an unforgettable trip, Starboy by The Weekend will always be the song that reminds me of this trip, and #pacoforpresident2016 keeps me smiling on Instagram when I need a reminder of those fun memories :) If you get a chance to go to Hawaii, I highly suggest picking Kauai!
Fav places we ate: Best Poke: Pono Market & Ishihara Market // A yummy restaurant in Hanalei Bay: Kalypso Island Bar & Grill // Stopped for coffee here towards the end of our trip: Java Kai // Shave ice: Loco Coco Shave Ice & Wailua Shave Ice // Hands down best juice & acai bowls: Kalalea Juice Hale // Rum tasting: Koloa Rum Company //
