One of the most asked questions I get is what type of flooring do we have in the whole house. We opted for vinyl plank flooring from Lumber Liquidators because of the price and feel of it. We had originally wanted to get engineered hardwood because Adam wanted real wood floors in our house. We even went and picked out a brand and color we loved, but when it came down to it, the $11,000 price tag (without installation) just felt like too much. We ultimately decided that we could find cheaper floors and use that money we didn’t spend, to put towards something else. When you’re doing a full house renovation all at once, you really have to weigh your options on how you spend your money. So we went on the hunt for vinyl plank floors and after sorting through a lot of horrible colors and plastic feeling flooring, we came across the the ones we have now (about $5,000 without installation but much easier to install yourself compared to engineered hardwood). They have a matte finish with some texture to it and is the perfect cool tone of wood that we wanted.
So one of the other most asked questions is how do we like the vinyl plank flooring. Overall for the price we are happy. I wouldn’t say it’s as durable as they make it seem, but really no flooring is, even real wood. We already have some scratches on the floor from moving the oven in and out a few times and few other minor scratches in random places. If we had laid the floors and weren’t working for months on a renovation, those scratches probably wouldn’t have happened. Another plus for vinyl plank flooring is that it’s so easy to install. I did a lot of it by myself while Adam was working on other things or at his job during the week. And the color we chose hides dirt pretty well, especially because the floors are matte instead of shiny.
