This is like a double post, because this sequin jacket is the perfect example of how to wear a thrift store find with your new clothes AND how to wear sequins in your everyday style. I'm not a fan of certain styles or clothes being put in a "box", meaning you can only wear them for specific occasions. The best way to get the most out of your wardrobe is to buy items that can be worn multiple ways, or learn how to style something in another way.
Thrift store finds don't have to mean overly worn, ugly, or dated clothing. For me, it means unique finds that no one else will be wearing and fun pieces I couldn't find at the mall. My mom always knows to keep an eye out for me for vintage sequin/beaded shirts and jackets, because besides floral dresses, this is the next best thing I could find when thrifting. No matter what size it is, I always try it on to see if I can make it work. Again, size doesn't matter, so I just want to see the fit of it and know if I can make that work.
Many people think that sequins, or heavily beaded clothes, can only be worn to a fancy party. I on the other hand, think that if paired with the right shirt and bottoms, sequins can be worn anytime! In order to dress down your sequins, you need the rest of your outfit to be casual. So I opted for maroon cut off shorts, a lace crop top with a bralette (Three Bird Nest) underneath, a simple choker, and my high top Vans. My jacket then becomes a fun accessory, and the casual outfit helps the jacket become less noticeable.
PS. Check out my post on bralettes!
Tips for this look:
1. Next time you need something with sequins, check a thrift store first
2. With a see through shirt, pick a bralette to wear underneath in the same or similar color
3. To make sequins more casual, pair it with cut off shorts or ripped jeans
